The Richmond. NH Soapstone Quarry cordierite crystals are among the best to be found worldwide. Cordierite weathers rather easily to a greenish white mica, "pinnite." Many of the Richmond cordierite crystals are somewhat altered to this mica state. Occasional blue-gray glassy blebs of un-altered cordierite have been found. | |
Species: CORDIERITE altering to "pinite" mica Locality: Soapstone Quarry, Richmond, NH Specimen Size: 5 mm field of view. Bright reflective geometric patterns of pinite mica surrounding islands of un-altered cordierite. Field Collected: Tom Mortimer Sept. 2013 Catalog No.: u1382 ?
